Created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, it is a medically endorsed mind and body exercise system designed to optimise physical fitness in people regardless of physical ability and age. It works inherently on the bones, muscles and soft tissues and is based on the 6 core principles of breath, concentration, centering, control, precision and flow. Joseph Pilates designed the large equipment during WWI whilst working in a hospital, with patients unable to walk. He attached springs to hospital beds to help support patient’s limbs leading to the development of the ‘Cadillac’ and ‘the Chair’. Now we have the ‘Tower Reformer’, ‘Reformer’ and ‘Barrel’ too. The health benefits of Pilates include: improved flexibility, increased muscle strength and tone, improved posture, improved physical coordination and balance, increased lung capacity and circulation, improved concentration, stress management and relaxation. A typical Pilates workout includes a number of exercises and stretches. Each exercise is performed with attention to proper breathing techniques and muscle control.
Developed in 1922 by Mikao Usui, Reiki is a non-invasive, energy transference based alternative treatment. Deriving from the Japanese words for ‘universal’ (Rei) and ‘energy’ (Ki), it involves the transference of energy through the practitioner to the client and it may be felt as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations or nothing at all. The practitioner places his/her hands on or near the fully-clothed client’s body in positions at the head, neck, shoulder, chest, stomach, pelvis, top of thighs, ankles and feet. The energy travels through and around the body to release, replenish and rebalance ‘Ki’ of the soft tissue skeletal and physiological systems. Reiki can help to create deep relaxation, release stress, and help healing after injury or operations. Reiki Workshops are available to teach you personal growth, self-healing, relaxation techniques and the function of Ki in your life.
All the massage treatments and 4U Pilates & Wellbeing work on the ‘hands-on’ manual manipulation of soft tissue structures; muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and fascia. A variety of techniques, depth of pressure, pace, rhythm, vibration and compression are used primarily by the hands, but can also engage forearms and elbows. Massage increases fluid flow to tissue, improves tissue elasticity, reduces muscle tension, spasms, stress, anxiety, scar tissue. The changes in the relationship between the soft tissue structures and bones promote better alignment, health, wellness and strain distribution. Powerful, therapeutic grade, essential oils can be used to enhance the massage and its benefits. Raindrop Technique can clean out, erase and restore you at a cellular level whilst the use of tuning forks allows sound vibration to travel through the body, encouraging the integration of energies, at a cellular level, of your body and mind.

Melt Method refers to the simple and effective self-care treatment created by Sue Hitzman, that works on the neurofascial system (nervous system and connective tissue system) using four different balls on the hands and feet plus a soft foam roller. The 4R principals of MELT are to ‘Reconnect’ to the body, ‘Rebalance’ the nervous system, ‘Rehydrate’ the connective tissue and ‘Release’ stuck stress and compressed joints. This method of self-care can be customised to your specific needs and its benefits include: improving your body’s physical performance, decreasing the risk of repetitive stress injuries, and even eliminating chronic pain.
